Friendly Visitors

Friendly Visitors

Our Friendly Visitor program helps meet the emotional needs of elders, and it’s enjoyable for the volunteer as well as the recipient!  You may gain valuable experience, contribute to your community, have fun, make a friend, learn something new, build your resume.

Social interaction and friendship promote good health. But older Vermonters often become isolated, which can lead to reduced strength, physical decline, depression, and other problems.  Weekly visits from friendly volunteers can help seniors thrive as they remain living in their own homes for as long as they wish to.

Requirements: You must be able to pass a background check. You may be of any adult age, income bracket, and time commitment in this volunteer role.

What can I expect as a Friendly Visitor volunteer?

Activities: How you spend your volunteer time will depend partly on your interests and the needs of the person you’re helping. Here are some examples:

• Home visits & conversation
• Sharing projects & hobbies
• Phone calls
• Help with forms & correspondence
• Sharing a meal
• Trips for shopping, appointments, or enjoyment

What you can expect of us: We will provide ongoing support and training, mileage reimbursement of 55 cents/mile, and occasional volunteer appreciation events where you can meet other volunteers.

What we will expect of you: You will perform your volunteer activities in accordance with Senior Solutions best practices, and will submit records of your volunteer hours served.
